Reimagining media, art, technology, AI applications, music and spaces.
One practice across technology, music and space.
Draw a line.
Any line. Use a mouse, a finger, or the Bend control.
Most things are made the way they were made before.
The same frame. The same room. The same four bars. It works, so nobody asks.
Then one person does.
1980
Roland built a drum machine that sounded nothing like drums.
Reviewers called the sounds unrealistic. It sold badly, and Roland stopped making it in 1983 after about twelve thousand units. Used ones went for a hundred dollars.
Producers who could afford nothing else bought them anyway. Marvin Gaye programmed Sexual Healing on one. Afrika Bambaataa built Planet Rock on one. The wrong-sounding box became the pulse of hip-hop and pop.
1995
A biochemist was told to drop the idea or lose her position.
Katalin Karikó believed messenger RNA could teach cells to make their own medicine. Grant after grant said no. The University of Pennsylvania demoted her, with a pay cut.
She kept going. A conversation at a copy machine became a partnership with Drew Weissman, and in 2005 a paper few people rushed to read. In 2020 that work carried the vaccines that reached billions of people. In 2023 it won the Nobel Prize.
1983
An architect won a competition with a painting.
Zaha Hadid's design for The Peak in Hong Kong looked as if it could not stand. It was never built. For ten years she won competitions and built almost nothing, and people called her a paper architect.
Her first building, a fire station for Vitra, opened in 1993. In 2004 she became the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize. The buildings looked like the paintings.
A frame anyone could draw. A line only you would.
reimagine is one person's name for working this way, across music, technology and space. The name is older than this site. It began as a sentence in a GitHub bio written in Ottawa: change how people see, consume and make media. This page is what that sentence turned into.
Your line stays in this browser. The download is an editable SVG.
